The text says Hyperboloid- oder Hypoidgetriebe Ein einschaliges Hyperboloid ist die Drehfläche, die man erhält, wenn man eine "liegende" Hyperbel um die z-Achse rotieren lässt. Es zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass durch jeden Punkt zwei Geraden gehen, die vollständig in der Fläche liegen. Diese Eigenschaft wird beim Hyperboloidgetriebe ausgenutzt, indem man die Zahnräder immer entlang einer dieser beiden Geraden fräst. Die Zähne zweier Hyperboloide greifen ineinander und eignen sich dazu, ein Drehmoment zwischen zwei beliebigen zueinander schief stehenden, sich nicht schneidenden Achsen zu übertragen. In unserem Modell sind keine Zahnräder eingefräst: stattdessen berühren sich die beiden Hyperboloide entlang einer Geraden und treiben sich nur durch Reibung gegenseitig an.
